I consider myself to be a pretty open-minded and optimistic individual, but sometimes there are times when I'm floored. My interview with Ryan Moor from Ryonet was one of those times. The number one goal for nonprofits is to bring in enough funds to sustain their efforts. Without money, no more cause. No more work done in the community.

From simple efforts to selling candy bars to holding formal galas, nonprofits have done a tremendous job of turning ‘asking’ for money into an art. The most effective fundraising is not having to ask. When one can gain the financial support without spending anything to obtain, the organization has gone from the minors to the major league. Obviously, a mutual affinity for the cause was seen and now goals can be met.

One generous philanthropist and/or foundation can cut a check with an absurd amount on it and change the trajectory of an organization's future. However, that's not going to happen overnight. From foundation searches to high-level networking, nonprofit executives are looking for those individuals without hiring a private investigation company. The goal is to have them be attracted to you as well, which is also known as compassionate giving.

While searching for "compassion" related content, I realized my purpose has always been rooted in compassion. Helping others is my calling. No surprise, but I have found that not everyone embraces compassion. And when we do, sometimes we don't know how to embrace it as social entrepreneurs.

Being an encourager/social entrepreneur has brought an interesting insight to me of the heart of people. For example, people ask for help but may not want it. Within the last 30 days, I did something out of compassion. The risk was real, but thought there was more good than bad. It couldn't be too bad leaving in a BMW from Uber, right?!
