I couldn't resist after I heard our guest speak about student loans on his website, so both Rebekah and I believed Mr. Hamilton would be great on the podcast. Since I have plenty that I'm paying for and grateful to have the education, it's still a lot of debt for all my degrees. Unfortunately, not a lot of people understand how to work with your lender. You don't have to be swallowed up.

Without going too philosophical, I wanted to do a podcast that took me years to learn. We as nonprofits have done a disservice to our predecessors. It wasn't until I found the 'business' element of running my organization, I then learned what was missing within my infrastructure.

Nonprofits need to be focused on reaching results, but we have to make it difficult. Results are called a different name. Those results are also called 'measureable outcomes.' To adopt the "measurable outcome" language versus using results was not beneficial to the sustainability of organizations.

One word we as social entrepreneurs don't hear or say too much is results. Amazingly enough, that word has a very definitive meaning. To speak of results it can be either a noun or verb. Most of the time, we make it a verb in the nonprofit sector. In the for-profit arena, results is typically a noun. There are anomalies on both sides, but not too many.

I found throughout the years of appealing to the masses, my methods were not synchronized to America's commercialization. For some unknown reason at the time, I always just missed deadlines to grants, letter of inquiries (aka, loi) and request for proposals (aka, rfp). It was very frustrating.

Finding resources for social entrepreneurs truly excites me more than people realize. Nonprofit business resources are scarce. I had to fight for my resources. There wasn't any out there, especially locally. One of my first major resources came from a meeting in Washington DC. The trip was paid for with my own personal money when there wasn't any 501c3 or incorporation status.

Nowadays, the resources are out there but not as accessible because they're hard to find. The mass marketing dollars go to the biggest buyer. Good thing that's  not the only way for us to locate quality expertise and knowledge. For example, a few years ago I stumbled into a YNPN (aka Young Nonprofit Professional Network) networking meeting before it "officially" re-formalized.
